New Technology and Dental Implants in Bellevue

Posted on: August 1, 2017

Dental ImplantPatients who receive our dental implants find comfortable and efficient results for replacing natural teeth. In fact, many have trouble remembering which tooth is the implant since it is so natural in appearance and use. Today’s dental implants are literally reshaping the world of prosthetic dentistry. Once an antediluvian technology, used by the Mayans to replace teeth, implant surgery has grown tremendously with modern science.

The technology and materials we use to place your implants today are so cutting edge that the body actually believes the implant is part of the organic tissue. These implants give you the most secure and stable base for your new artificial teeth. Regardless, people will still have questions about dental implants. Below are a few of the common questions we hear.

What exactly is a dental implant?

With a dental implant, patients are getting a solution that is stronger, more durable, more permanent and better looking than anything the traditional means could offer. In addition to this, we surgically insert a dental implant into the jawbone, which supports the implant just like it was a real tooth. When patients compare this permanent solution to bridges, which we can cement in place on the outside of the teeth, there really is no denying what solution is better for improving one’s quality of life.

Given the permanence of dental implants, it stands to reason that many of our patients have a lot of questions before making the leap. Questions are especially common for patients that are older or already have prosthetic devices. The titanium post of the dental implant will fuse with the jawbone in a process known as osseointegration. While this process can take some time, there will not be too much pain or issue with our professional assistance.

Since dental implants are installed via a surgical procedure, how long will it take for me to recover?

While surgery is necessary to install the dental implants into the jawbone, we will most likely complete the surgery in stages. By dividing up the procedure, we can help increase the rate of success and shorten the amount of recovery time. Between the stages, patients rest for 10 to 14 days in order to allow time for healing. After, the patient will return to our office so we can ensure that everything is working out well.

If necessary, we will make any minor modifications necessary before proceeding to the next stage. This step by step method also means that the final recovery time after completing the procedure will only be two weeks.

How successful are dental implants?

In terms of the installation itself, dental implants have a high success rate. Naturally, there are individual factors to discuss with the patient at length that determine how successful dental implants can be. On the basis of longevity, dental implants last anywhere from seven to 30 years or even a lifetime. This depends on how well you take care of your mouth, your oral health and hygiene habits, and how well the rest of your mouth works to support the implants.

We place dental implants because this is the most natural looking and durable solution to tooth loss. For more information, call us at (425) 249-9186 and schedule a consultation.
