Cosmetic Dentistry and Your Gums

As a Bellevue cosmetic dentist, we can improve the appearance of your smile through our gum contouring procedure.  If you have a gummy smile and feel as though your gums are more noticeable than your teeth, scheduling a non-surgical gum surgery is one of your best options for addressing this specific problem.  To learn more about gum surgery, we encourage you to call Bellevue Implant & Cosmetic Dentistry at (425) 249-9186.

What to expect during your appointment.

When you visit our 98004 cosmetic dentist office we will begin by conducting an examination and taking x-rays to ensure that you are in good oral health.  Prior to starting an elective procedure like gum contouring, we need to ensure that your teeth and gums are healthy and free from infection.  If you are suffering from decay or gum disease, we need to address these issues first to give you the best opportunity for long-term oral health and to make it easier for you to recover from the gum surgery.  Once you are cleared for the procedure, we will schedule you right away.

After your initial examination, we will sit down with you to discuss the concerns that you have and what you do not like about your gums.  Some of our patients are only concerned with the size of the gums on their upper teeth while others want both addressed.  We will make a recommendation that is based on your specific concerns and the procedure most likely to produce incredible results

What you should know about gum surgery in Bellevue.

To correct a gummy smile, a portion of the gum tissue must be cut away and then the gums must be shaped.  Gum contouring allows us to do so, and the results are gums that appear healthier and more attractive in general.  When you visit Bellevue Implant & Cosmetic Dentistry we will numb the area that we are working on and may also provide you with sedation so that you can completely relax. We typically draw or mark the gums to identify where we want them to be once the procedure is complete.  Next, there are two ways to go about the actual procedure.  You can visit a 98004 dentist that will cut away the gum tissue using a scalpel or you can visit our cosmetic dentist office for non-surgical gum surgery.  Using lasers, we can shape your gums so that you no longer have a gummy smile, without the need to make any incisions or to suture the area.  By using lasers we can create a far better experience for our patients, one where the gums are less irritated, experience less swelling, and are unlikely to have significant bleeding.
